Sampson…and more updates

This past week has had a lot going on. Momma May has adopted three more babies, after two of her little family got adopted. Molly, Taco, and Belle are now being nurtured by a mother’s love and milk, and are growing so fast! Several other litters of kittens are in foster and will soon reach two pounds. If you are interested in adopting a kitten, please reach out, preferably midweek when we have spay/neuters and can give you a more definite idea of who is available.

I also received a litter of four kittens last Sunday. On Monday night I knew something was wrong. I started some supportive care, but the little black one was fading and I took him to the ER at 11:30pm. We decided to hospitalize and give him a chance, as his glucose was still good, but his body temperature was comatose. They brought his body temp up, but his glucose then crashed, and the baby started seizing…we made the always difficult decision to compassionately euthanize. I brought the three remaining to the vet Tuesday morning; we suspected another case of panleukopenia. A second one died there at the vet. Two came home with me at the end of the day, to try to give supportive care and see if they could make it. One died in my arms that night. The last little Siamese boy, whom I have since named Sampson for his strength and bravery, still survives. He is now eating on his own and maintaining weight, though not gaining yet. He sleeps in a kennel next to my bed and I keep a close eye on him. He has a purr so loud! And today he wants to walk around outside his kennel and explore—-though I can’t let him do much, so he doesn’t spread disease to other cats. This boy is special and will need to go to someone who really appreciates him!

Sampson. My brave little fighter.
